Sound Off – September 2016 Responses

In a site as old and interesting as the Old North, it can be hard to see everything and learn about everything in just one visit. That’s why we asked you to tell us your favorite object(s) in the church on this past month’s Sounding Board. The results are in!

In a site as old and interesting as the Old North, it can be hard to see everything and learn about everything in just one visit. That’s why we asked you to tell us your favorite object(s) in the church on this past month’s Sounding Board. The results are in!

By far the most responses said the design of the box pews were your favorites, with the organ and chandeliers coming in second. Other favorites included the raised chalice, or wine-glass pulpit, the Newman Window, and the “stolen” Gruchy angels. Some people found the ability to sit in the same spot as Theodore Roosevelt most fascinating, while others found the sounding board over the pulpit astonishing, given that its simple design still works! Yet another visitor noted how special it was for them to be able to see the bust of George Washington that Lafayette declared most accurate of all images.

It seems almost every aspect of the church was someone’s favorite item, from the clock to the big windows to our still-functioning 292-year-old donation box! From your responses, it’s clear that visitors to the church notice the unusual and interesting items in the church, no matter how small or how large. If you missed all of these fabulous objects, play Prince’s Prowl the next time you visit. It’s our new interactive game for mobile devices with Prince the cat as the virtual tour guide. He points out his favorite things inside the church!

This month, we’d like to know:

what are some differences between Old North & your home house of worship?

See if you can spot the board in its new location and leave us your answer! Or you can leave a comment below. As usual, we will collect your replies at the end of the month and post them here online!
