Chocolate Valentine’s Day Thumbprint Cookies
Yields: about 4 dozen cookies
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Baking Time: 12-15 minutes per batch of cookies
Equipment
- Electric Mixer
- Large Mixing bowl
- Small Saucepan
- Teaspoon or melon ball scoop
- 2 cookie sheets (ungreased)
- Measuring cup and spoon
Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened to room temperature
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup American Heritage Historic Chocolate Drink Mix
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
- 2 bags of Dove Promise Valentine’s Day Candy Chocolates Hearts
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Place oven rack in the middle position.
- Place softened butter and sugar into large mixing bowl and beat with electric mixer until smooth and creamy. 2-3 minutes
- Put American Heritage Chocolate Drink Mix and coconut oil unto a small sauce pan and melt over a medium heat. 1-2 minutes. Set aside
- Add egg and vanilla to creamy sugar and butter mixture and process with mixer until well blended.
- Add flour, salt and melted chocolate and beat at a medium speed until blended, the dough will be stiff.

- Using a teaspoon or a melon ball scoop, portion the dough and roll it into a ball about the size of a walnut. Four to five balls across the cookie sheet. 5 to 6 rows down.

- Put your thumb in the center of the ball and push to flatten, leaving a deep thumbprint!
- Bake each batch, one cookie sheet at a time for 10 minutes.
- While cookies are baking remove the individual wrapper from the Dove chocolate candies.

- After 10 minutes, remove the cookie tray from the oven and place an unwrapped chocolate heart on the flattened surface of the cookie and put the cookie sheet back into the oven, and bake for another 2 minutes.

- Remove from the oven and cool on the sheet for 3 minutes, then transfer the cookies to a cooling rack. You can also put them in the refrigerator for a few minutes to set up the chocolate.
- Store in a single layer, separated by wax paper, in an airtight container.
